Compared to most recent years, when for example I recorded 165 species in the county in 2011, 187 in 2012 and 173 in 2013, this has been a particularly poor one with just 157 species recorded by mid December - one of my worst years on record

YEARLISTING IN BUCKINGHAMSHIRE

It's all over - 2012 has come to an end. I managed a total of 187 out of the 198 species recorded all told in Buckinghamshire - 94% of the total - probably my highest-ever annual tally.

The current record is 191 species achieved in 2006 and held jointly by both Rob Hill and Simon Nichols

Manor Farm today

Final totals from a productive hour or so at Manor Farm with Simon this morning:

TURNSTONE 1 (yesterdays bird)
Dunlin 6 summer-plumaged adults
Ringed Plover 4
Common Sand 1
ARCTIC TERN 12 through east
Common Tern c15 or so included 6-8 which may be potential breeders, and another c8 which passed through east
Black-headed Gull 3 east
Common Gull 1 west
Swift 3
Red Kite 1
Hirundines: significant easterly passage of 250-300 birds, mostly House Martins, with c60 Swallows & c40 Sand Martins (although the total for the latter species can't exclude breeders)
Yellowhammer 1 east (only included because it was a welcome patch tick!)
